Kansas saw its first upswing in property crimes since 2017, rising 2.6% last year, new state crime statistics show.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation reported that 66,782 property crimes occurred last year, including theft, stolen vehicles and burglaries.
It was up from 65,119 in 2022 but down about 18% from 2017 when there were 81,349 reported property crimes.
The biggest increases in property crimes were 2.9% for theft and 4.8% for motor vehicle theft, while burglaries fell by about 1%, the data shows.
