Don Brownlee will be retiring as executive director of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, the primary state agency responsible for regulating and licensing state-owned casinos, sports wagering, and pari-mutuel racing in Kansas.
Brownlee's decision to step down from his role as executive director on June 20 was announced at a commission meeting Friday.
He has served in that role since 2015, when he was appointed to the position of executive director by former Republican Gov. Sam Brownback. He was reappointed in 2019 by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly.
