Audit identifies inadequacies in fire marshal inspections

State fire marshal inspectors don't always consistently apply and enforce fire codes for residential and childcare facilities in Kansas, state auditors report.

State auditors issued a report on Monday examining whether certain inspections for residential and childcare facilities conducted by the state fire marshal were  consistent and adequately documented.

Auditors found that inspectors they observed didn’t consistently identify or cite facilities for violations and that they didn’t always adequately support more than half of the violations that their report reviewed . . .
