Kelly calls for ‘civility and kindness’ – ‘especially when we disagree’

As she starts a second term as governor, Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly urged Kansans to join together, shed the ugliness of national politics and embrace the middle-of-the-road theme she emphasized running for reelection.

Moving into a second term where she will have to navigate the contours of a Legislature dominated by conservatives, Kelly called on the state to respectfully  tackle the issues of the day confronting state government.

"Let us be guided by civility and kindness, even when we disagree. Perhaps, especially when we disagree," Kelly said during a roughly 10-minute inaugural address Monday afternoon.
