Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday announced that she was making Chief Operating Officer Ryan Wright-Spain acting director for the Kansas Department of Revenue now that Secretary Mark Burghart has retired
Wright-Spain has served as chief operating officer since July 2024, a role in which he has worked extensively with each cabinet agency.
He served as deputy chief of staff for the governor since March 2019 and acting labor secretary during the pandemic when he was responsible for stabilizing the agency’s antiquated unemployment system when the state was flooded with unemployment claims.
