Crime in Kansas fell nearly 12% last year, plummeting to its lowest point in more than 20 years when the state started collecting and publishing crime data.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation reports that so-called index crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson, dropped 9,272 to 70,804.
A spokesperson for the KBI said it was the lowest number since 2003, when the agency began collecting and publishing the data.
