Looking to improve oversight over how it manages state spending, the Legislature is going to study how it might revise the budgeting process, including the possibility of developing its own proposed draft budget.
Legislative leaders on Tuesday approved two days for a joint committee to discuss and recommend how the state's budget process might be improved and give lawmakers more of a handle on spending decisions.
House Speaker Dan Hawkins and Senate President Ty Masterson proposed the idea in an effort to give the Legislature more time to work on the budget and make it more efficient.
