Former state Rep. Marty Long of Ulysses may get a jump-start on returning to the Kansas Legislature representing the 124th House District.

Precinct committee leaders on Monday night elected Long to serve out the term of Republican Rep. Dave Younger, who resigned in early July after buying a home outside the district.

Precinct leaders convened Monday night to choose between Long and his GOP primary opponent, Benjamin Fuentes of Satanta. Long prevailed. The vote was not available.

The precinct committee election could be a preview of the Aug. 6 primary, where Long and Fuentes are running for the GOP . . .
