U.S. Senate confirms former Kansas bank commissioner to top regulatory post

The U.S. Senate late Wednesday afternoon confirmed former Kansas state bank commissioner Michelle Bowman as the new vice chair for supervision at the central bank.

Bowman — a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System since 2018 — was President Donald Trump's choice to become one of the country’s top banking regulators for the Federal Reserve Board.

The Morris County native with a background in community banking replaces President's Joe Biden appointee Michael Barr, who stepped down to avoid a confrontation with Trump allies who wanted him removed from the position.
