The executive director of the Mainstream Coalition is stepping down from the position at the end of the month following the death of his sister.
Michael Poppa, who also is the mayor of Roeland Park in suburban Johnson County, announced his decision to leave on Facebook on Thursday. He had led Mainstream for six years.
He said the "untimely" death of his sister made him reconsider life's priorities.
"It was not an easy decision, but one that reflects how my personal life has called me to radically reprioritize in ways I couldn’t have imagined," he wrote.
