Former Republican state Sen. Tom Arpke of Salina is planning to run for the Senate seat that came open with Republican J.R. Claeys taking a job with the Trump administration.
"My hat is in the ring," the former Salina lawmaker said in an interview.
Arpke is running for the Senate District 24 seat that had been held by Claeys until he took a job Monday with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the president's administration.
Arpke served in the Kansas House from 2011 . . .
