Kansas Supreme Court denies sheriff’s candidate ballot access

The Kansas Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that a prospective sheriff's candidate in Lyon County can't go on the ballot with an expunged criminal record.

The court ruled that Lyon County Election Commissioner Tammy Vopat was legally justified in removing Daniel Klingensmith's name from the ballot for Lyon County sheriff.

Klingensmith filed to run for sheriff  against Republican incumbent Jeff Cope, but a KBI background check turned up an expunged criminal conviction.
