The Kansas Senate on Thursday narrowly approved a constitutional amendment calling for electing members of the Kansas Supreme Court, abolishing a method that's been used for more than 60 years that was put in place after a historical scandal.
The Senate voted 27-13 for the constitutional amendment, which requires support from two-thirds of the Legislature and would be ratified by the voters during the 2026 primary election. The amendment now goes to the House.
