Kansas voters on Tuesday rejected a constitutional amendment that could have reshaped how the law is decided by electing justices to the state Supreme Court.
The amendment, brought by lawmakers and advocates who had become fed up with court rulings they said were out of step with the electorate, was losing 66% to 34%, according to unofficial results.
The Associated Press has already projected the amendment will be defeated.
The amendment would have abolished a system used since 1958 that employs a nine-person screening panel - five lawyers elected by their peers and four nonlawyers appointed . . .
