Former Democratic Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple won his primary on Tuesday against Democratic state Rep. Henry Helgerson of Eastborough, marking one of the few House upsets on Tuesday night.
There were six Democratic House members on the ballot and two - Helgerson and state Rep. Ford Carr of Wichita - were defeated. On the Republican side, there were 17 House incumbents on the ballot and only two - Ken Collins of Mulberry and Mike Storm of Olathe - lost.
But the Republican primary in House District 42 between Rep. Lance Neelly of Tonganoxie and Leavenworth County Commissioner Mike Stieben was still tight on Tuesday . . .
