UPDATED: Memorial Hall evacuated; investigation focused on ‘suspicious mail’

Authorities are investigating a piece of "suspicious mail" that was sent to the Kansas secretary of state's office, prompting the evacuation of state employees from Memorial Hall late Tuesday morning.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said it's working with the Office of the Kansas State Fire Marshal, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department for Health and Environment as part of its investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

The secretary of state's office referred all comments to the KBI.
