Kelly calls for setting aside ‘partisan swords,’ renewal of Kansas spirit

Embarking on a new era of leadership, Democrat Laura Kelly called on Kansans to set aside "partisan swords" and recommit themselves to making their state a better place for everyone from all walks of life as she was sworn in as Kansas' 48th governor.

Taking the reins of state government after eight years of Republican control, Kelly implored Kansans and their elected leaders for a renewal that will put the "collective good ahead of any individual ambition or agenda."

"We must seek to lift up all Kansans regardless of whether they look like us,
think like us, worship like us . . .
