The state Ethics Commission on Wednesday fined Mark Hutton $250 for campaign finance violations stemming from his unsuccessful campaign for governor in 2018.
The commission chose the low end of the range for the fine, noting that Hutton self-reported the violation, cooperated with ethics staff and he had complied with campaign finance laws as a state lawmaker from Wichita.
Ethics staff had recommended a fine from $250 to $1,000.
Hutton, a member of the Kansas Board of Regents, ran for governor in 2018 as part of a crowded field seeking the Republican nomination. He withdrew in March 2018 . . .
