A special committee on Thursday tentatively agreed on a plan to raise legislative salaries to $43,000 a year, not quite 50% above what lawmakers now earn.
The commission, created by the Legislature last session, approved a draft proposal that will be up for final consideration when the panel next meets and takes public comment.
The commission also tentatively agreed to index that salary based on a rolling three-year average for all Kansas employees based on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The new salary is based on a quarter of what members of Congress are now paid . . .
