Coalition of former lawmakers creates nonprofit ahead of ’24 election

A bipartisan group of former lawmakers has formed a new social welfare group that puts them in position next year to campaign against conservative Republicans.

The Sunflower State Journal has learned that Kansans First was created as a 501(c)(4) social welfare group on Sept. 27, meaning it doesn't have to disclose its donors. It is supposed to be officially announced Monday.

The paperwork lists a number of former lawmakers as directors, including former Republican Senate President Steve Morris of Hugoton, former Republican state Sen. John Skubal of Overland Park and former Republican state Sen. Mary Jo Taylor . . .
