Former state Rep. Dale Swenson of Wichita is being remembered this week as an ardent supporter of organized labor who became a Democrat after years of withstanding pressure to change his vote as a Republican.
Swenson died Aug. 22, friends said in Facebook posts. He was 69. Swenson served in the Kansas House from 1995 to 2011. He served as a Republican from 1995 to 2008 and then as a Democrat from 2009 to 2011.
"Dale was always a strong supporter of working Kansans," wrote Democratic state Rep. Ton Sawyer of Wichita.
