The number of Kansas families receiving cash assistance payments from a federal program for the less affluent reached a 15-year low in Kansas during 2023, a new state audit shows.
The number of cash assistance cases in Kansas decreased to an average of 2,900 a month in fiscal year 2023 from about 12,600 in 2009, a reduction of 77% over a 15-year span, according to the audit.
