Young Republicans change leaders; outgoing chair eyes local race

The chair of the Kansas Young Republicans is stepping down with an eye on running for local office in Johnson County.

Tony Bergida, who was credited for growing the young Republicans, left his position as chair of the Young Republicans this week.

Political consultant Dustin Morris was elected as the new chair.

It is widely believed the Bergida is planning to run for the Johnson County Commission against incumbent Shirley Allenbrand, whose term expires in 2025.

Allenbrand was elected in 2020 when she beat former Commissioner Mike Brown, now the Republican Party chair.
