Western Kansas farmer who rose to prominence making national economic policy dies

Wayne Angell, a western Kansas farmer who rose to prominence as a national economist who sat on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors for a decade, has died. He was 94.

He died April 19 at his home in Laguna Beach, California, his wife of 74 years, Betty Angell, told Bloomberg News.

A former Kansas lawmaker who served in the House for three terms, Angell was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan to serve on the Fed board in 1985 where he earned a national reputation as an “inflation hawk.”
