State Medicaid director departing

Sarah Fertig is leaving as the state's Medicaid director after leading the $4 billion program for a little more than three years.

A spokesperson for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirmed for the Sunflower State Journal on Tuesday afternoon that Fertig was leaving the agency.

Deputy KDHE Secretary Christine Osterlund has been named interim Medicaid director.

Osterlund has been presiding over the state's unwinding from the continuous enrollment provision of the Medicaid program.

It could not immediately be confirmed where Fertig was headed.
