Special panel zeroes in on compensation plan for Legislature

A special committee on Thursday started coalescing around a plan that would raise legislative salaries to $45,000 a year, more than 50% above the estimated annual current pay for Kansas legislators.

The committee's chair, former state Rep. Mark Hutton, brought the draft proposal forward Thursday and received little pushback on the base salary amount, although there are still some issues that need to be addressed.
