Hawkins eyes reduction in school property tax, promises repeal of local tax fund

House Speaker Dan Hawkins said Thursday he expects an effort to cut the state's property tax for schools as he promised to line up a new tax bill within the first two weeks of the upcoming legislative session.

"Property tax is the most hated tax," Hawkins said at an event held by Americans for Prosperity at the Capitol as part of a statewide tour promoting tax relief.

Hawkins joined with Senate President Ty Masterson to talk about the tax bill that Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed last year . . .
