Momentum started to build behind a bill that would move the state to a single tax rate by cutting taxes when state revenues beat inflation.
The House tax committee voted 15-6 on Thursday to approve a bill backed by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce to lower individual tax rates to 4.5% when revenues beat inflation.
The bill is a departure from most of the discussion during this legislative session, which has mostly been focused on cutting property taxes.
