Republican leader introduces new constitutional amendment for cutting taxes

A top House Republican has introduced a new constitutional amendment that's intended to reduce taxes with proceeds generated from the elimination of sales tax exemptions.

Republican state Rep. Blake Carpenter, the House speaker pro tem from Derby, is backing an amendment that would create a special fund that would be dedicated to cutting taxes.

The fund would be financed from revenues derived by more than 100 state sales tax exemptions that could be eliminated by a citizens committee created by the amendment.
