Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach on Monday asked lawmakers to make firearm sound suppressors and short-barreled shotguns legal in Kansas, saying the laws now in place were better suited for fighting gangsters of the 1930s than today.
Appearing before the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee, Kobach said state law conflicts with a federal law allowing the suppressors and short-barreled shotguns so long as they're registered and taxed.
However, the One Big Beautiful Bill passed by Congress last year eliminated the $200 tax, which was considered pricey for the days of Bonnie and Clyde and John Dillinger . . .
