Senate Republicans poised to gain two seats; keep supermajority

Senate Republicans appeared to have picked up two seats and turned back a vigorous effort by Gov. Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly to break up their supermajority.

Unofficial results showed that Republican Lansing businessman Jeff Klemp defeated Democratic state Sen. Jeff Pittman of Leavenworth by 61 votes with provisional ballots left to be counted before the election is certified.

Also, former Riley County Schools Superintendent Brad Starnes defeated Democratic incumbent Usha Reddi of Manhattan by 531 votes in Senate District 22.

The Senate Republicans also won in three major races in suburban Johnson County with two incumbents - Kellie Warren and Mike . . .
