The wife of Republican political consultant Kris Van Meteren is joining the race for Senate District 5 in a bid to defeat Democratic incumbent Jeff Pittman of Leavenworth.
Echo Van Meteren has filed to run in a district that covers all or parts of Basehor, Kansas City, Lansing and Leavenworth.
In 2016, Van Meteren ran against Democratic state Sen. Tom Holland of Baldwin City and came up short with about 48% of the vote, losing by 1,025 votes.
There's still speculation that at least one more Republican could enter the race . . .
