Panasonic electric costs expected to be shared across Midwest, utility officials say

Kansas ratepayers are not expected to shoulder the full cost of supplying the new Panasonic plant in De Soto with electricity, utility company officials say.

Evergy executives say a portion of the costs of supplying the new $4 billion electric battery plant with the power demands of a small city will be covered by ratepayers across the Midwest.

They say the Southwest Power Pool, which manages electric transmission  in 14 Midwestern states, has designated a power substation and transmission lines that will serve Panasonic as regionally significant.
