A math specialist from Great Bend is running for the House seat that will come open with Tory Marie Blew running for the Kansas Senate next year.

“I really feel like this is a point in time where we need people to stand up and jump in and take a stand for our constitutional republic and be ready to have a voice out there,” Brantley said in an interview.

Brantley, who has been a precinct committeewoman in Barton County, described herself as a conservative.

She said she favors the flat income tax that’s been considered in the Legislature.

She also said she supports school choice. She opposes abortion and supports gun rights.

Brantley graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a bachelor’s in elementary education.

She received a master’s from Fort Hays State in elementary education with an emphasis in English for speakers of other languages.

She also received a master’s in building administration from FHSU as well.

She also earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Walden University.

Brantley said she had a teaching career that spanned 32 years, leading classrooms in Oklahoma, Great Bend and at Fort Hays State.

The 112th House District is decidedly conservative.

Republican Derek Schmidt carried this district with about 62% of the vote last year when he lost to Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly in the governor’s race.

The constitutional amendment on abortion won in this district with 54% of the vote.

About 60% of the voters here are Republican and 14% are Democrats. About 25% of the voters in the district are independent.
