KBI says letter sent to secretary of state’s office not hazardous

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said Wednesday that the suspicious letter sent to the secretary of state's office didn't present a threat.

The agency said that investigators identified the person they believed sent the suspicious letter.

The KBI said preliminary testing indicated the substance in the letter was not hazardous.

Testing continues and final laboratory results are pending.

On Tuesday, Memorial Hall - home to the secretary of state's office and the attorney general's office - was evacuated when the letter was discovered.
