Democrats have been chipping away at the GOP supermajority in the Kansas Legislature for years now.
The Republicans have held a supermajority since 2011 after a conservative wave in which they swept all statewide races, including Sam Brownback winning the governor's seat.
But the Democrats have been incrementally cutting into the Republican advantage, which may be at risk as attention turns toward the 2024 legislative elections.
With local elections out of the way, Democrats are increasingly optimistic about breaking up the GOP supermajority after enjoying much success last week in suburban Johnson County.
