A key House committee Thursday night further cut money allocated for special education, agreeing to spend $10 million compared to the $72.6 million that was originally proposed by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly.
The House Appropriations Committee agreed on $10 million after Republican state Rep. Kristey Williams initially proposed eliminating $30 million that a House budget subcommittee initially recommended for special education.
Williams removed the money for the enhancements, saying school districts are generally enjoying more money because of an inflation trigger in the school finance formula.
