Gov. Laura Kelly's administration is clashing with the attorney general's office over a proposal to expand the power of the inspector general to investigate welfare benefits for fraud, including cash, food and health assistance.
Appearing before the House health committee on Monday, Medicaid Inspector General Steve Anderson asked lawmakers to broaden his authority to investigate public assistance fraud beyond the state’s $5.5 billion Medicaid program serving 467,000 Kansans.
The bill would change the legal power of the Medicaid inspector general - located within Attorney General Kris Kobach's office - from only Medicaid investigations to overall statewide . . .
