Kobach aide opposes bill abolishing open state government positions

Attorney General Kris Kobach's top aide on Wednesday pushed back against a government efficiency proposal abolishing open state positions that have been vacant for more than six months in an effort to save taxpayer funds.

The newly created Senate Committee on Government Efficiency heard opposition from Kobach's chief of staff to the bill, which is intended to keep the state from funding what was described as "phantom" employees where the money is diverted elsewhere.
