The House budget-writing committee on Thursday agreed to cut funding for 1,000 vacant full-time positions and trimmed state operating expenses across the board by 1.5%.
As it nears wrapping up its deliberations on a proposed $10.6 billion budget for fiscal year 2026, the committee cut about $46 million from the state budget.
Cutting the open positions will save about $11 million, while the across-the-board cuts will save about $36 million, lawmakers said.
The committee also agreed to withhold about $1.8 million from the Department of Children and Families until the agency requests . . .
