Senators scale back ‘health freedom’ bill

A bill that started out curtailing the powers of the state health secretary was scaled back Tuesday to focus mostly on the power of local governments to order quarantines.

The Senate health committee on Tuesday moved out a bill out that now focuses on forced quarantines by counties or local health officers.

The bill bans counties or joint boards of health or the local health officer from prohibiting public gatherings in order to stem the spread of infectious diseases.

They may only recommend against public gatherings under the new bill . . .
