The federal government on Monday awarded Kansas about $222 million as part of a national effort to reinvent rural health care, an initiative that will potentially affect nearly 1 million Kansans.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced the award, which is coming from a $50 billion pot of money approved by Congress when it passed the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill.
The $50 billion will be allocated to approved states over five years, with $10 billion available each year from 2026 through 2030.
It is anticipated that Kansas could receive about $1.5 billion over the life . . .
