Sedgwick County Democrats picked a former aide to congressional candidate James Thompson to fill out the term of Wichita Mayor-elect Brandon Whipple.
The Sedgwick County Democratic Party picked Stephanie Yeager to replace Whipple in House District 96, according to Twitter.
Yeager worked for Thompson in his second unsuccessful run for Congress against Republican Ron Estes.
The party’s precinct committee members picked Yeager unanimously. The selection was made by six of the seven eligible precinct committee persons.
Yeager, the wife of the Sedgwick County Democratic party chairman, was the only person seeking to fill out the end of Whipple’s term.
Whipple extended a “huge” congratulations to Yeager.
“Our southside community is in good hands.”
Yeager said she was not only looking forward to start work in the Kansas House this January but to run for the office next year.
“I could use all of you on my team as we head into 2020!”
