Former KU hoops player files to run for Congress

Former University of Kansas basketball player Matt Kleinmann filed Monday morning to run for the 2nd District Congressional seat now held by Republican U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner.

Kleinmann is seeking a seat that was reconfigured when election boundaries were redrawn in 2022 to make the district more Republican-leaning when Lawrence was moved from the 2nd District into the 1st District.

So far, he's the only Democrat to file. Three Republicans - Derek Schmidt, Jeff Kahrs and Shawn Tiffany - are running for the Republican Party nomination for the seat.

LaTurner, first elected to Congress in 2020, is not running . . .
