Lots of coverage early today about Democratic attorney general candidate Sarah Swain, who’s embroiled in an ugly controversy over a poster in her law office showing Wonder Woman with her lasso of truth around a cop’s neck.

Ethan Corson, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, issued a statement this morning distancing the party from Swain, a Lawrence criminal defense attorney.

“Promotion of violence against law enforcement officers disqualifies Swain from serving as Kansas’ chief law enforcement officer,” Corson said.

“We strongly condemn and reject any depiction of violence against law enforcement, including the image from Swain’s law firm. We did not recruit or encourage Swain to run for attorney general, nor have we had any contact with her since she filed.”

The controversy is erupting just days after two Wyandotte County sheriff’s deputies were shot to death last week.

Swain is the only Democrat on the ballot against Republican incumbent Derek Schmidt. If she would withdraw, Schmidt would win another term.

Some particularly good coverage from Peter Hancock at the Lawrence Journal-World, who writes about Swain’s history of writing highly critical remarks about police on social media. Here’s the first story on the controversy from KSHB-TV on Monday.

Here are other stories today from the Topeka-Capital Journal and the KC Star.
