A bill that would give the Kansas Legislature a voice in how vacancies for the U.S. Senate in Kansas are picked emerged from a House committee late Thursday afternoon.
A divided House elections committee passed out a bill that would allow the Legislature to help pick not only a replacement for Senate but insurance commissioner and state treasurer.
Now, the governor gets to fill those vacancies but under the bill the Legislature would submit a list of three candidates to the governor from the same political party as the person who is leaving office.
