The state's three biggest universities are floating a proposal that calls for a half billion dollars in state funding to enhance their research capabilities and help the state expand its workforce and grow the economy.
The idea - submitted by the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Wichita State University - was put forward at a budget workshop held by the Kansas Board of Regents at the end of July.
It calls for $100 million in yearly funding for five years. It was one of millions of dollars in projects that were presented at the budget workshop, including $93 million . . .
