The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the disappearance of a local city clerk who previously worked for the Kansas Commerce Department.
KBI spokesperson Melissa Underwood said in a statement that the agency had joined the investigation of Jonathan Clayton, who suddenly disappeared Aug. 3 amid concerns about accounting for a $740,000 state grant.
Clayton had been the interim city clerk for the city of Peabody, a town with a little more than 900 people located north of Wichita.
