State Supreme Court reverses capital murder conviction in pregnant woman’s death

The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday reversed the capital murder conviction of a Kansas City, Kansas, man in the shooting death of a woman who was 21 weeks pregnant.

The court overturned the conviction of Devonte Dominique Wash because of prosecutorial errors that included discussing evidence before a jury that had been excluded by the district court and making erroneous remarks that prejudiced the case against him.

"The state failed to uphold its responsibility in safeguarding Wash's right to a fair trial . . .
