Senate to take up education finance plan Thursday

Just hours after a House committee approved a constitutional amendment on school finance, the Kansas Senate suddenly announced plans to take up its own school funding plan on Thursday.

Senate President Susan Wagle and Senate Majority Leader Jim Denning announced tonight that they will run a bill Thursday that would put $274 million more into education over five years. The plan answers a state Supreme Court ruling that found the state wasn't adequately funding education.

The Senate plan is less than the $522 million plan over five years . . .
